Who we are
Marine Corps Air Facility (MCAF) Quantico, commissioned in 1919 and located within Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, is a key aviation hub primarily supporting Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), which transports the President aboard "Marine One" and other VIPs, while advancing tactical aviation. As the "cradle of Marine aviation," MCAF has long been pivotal in testing and refining aircraft capabilities, from early innovations like air balloon spotting and smoke screens to modern vertical envelopment techniques. It continues to serve as the operational base for HMX-1 in direct support of presidential operations. In recognition of its exemplary safety culture, MCAF earned the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) "Star" status in October 2017, following a thorough review by an OSHA Region III team. The facility also supports critical, developmental, and executive transport missions for transient aircraft.
